Board game guide
Ludo
Ludo on Spin Crush is an online multiplayer board game. Each player has four tokens that start in their home base. Roll a die to move tokens along the perimeter track toward the center home column. Landing on an opponent's token captures it and sends it back to their base. The game features a unique third-capture win condition: capturing three opponent tokens in a single round wins immediately. Tokens enter the home column after completing a full lap and must reach the center by exact dice rolls.
How Ludo Works
Two conditions end a Ludo round: getting your own four tokens home, or taking three of your opponent's tokens out of play in the same round. The second condition is what makes this format aggressive, because a player can win without a single token reaching the center. Getting a token moving needs a 6, and after that the round is a race against capture on a track where safe squares only protect the tokens standing on them.
Playing a Round
Join a table, roll the die, and move your tokens strategically. The third-capture rule adds an aggressive path to victory.
- Join a Ludo match and wait for the game to start.
- On your turn, roll the die. If you roll a 6, you may move a token from base to the starting square (and roll again).
- Select an eligible token and move it forward by the number shown on the die.
- If your token lands on an opponent's token, that token is captured and returns to base. Your capture count increases.
- Reach the home column after a full lap. Move tokens up the column by exact rolls to reach the center.
- The round ends when a player gets all four tokens home, or when any player makes their third capture of the round.
Key Terminology
- Base — The starting corner where all four tokens begin.
- Starting square — The first square on the track where a token enters after rolling a 6.
- Safe square — Marked squares (often with a star or shield) where tokens cannot be captured.
- Capture — Landing on an opponent's token, sending it back to base.
- Home column — The colored straight path leading to the center; only the owner's tokens may enter.
- Third-capture win — The Spin Crush format ends the round immediately when a player captures three opponent tokens in that round.
Dice Mechanics
Rolling a 6 grants an extra roll. If you roll three 6s in a single turn, the turn ends and no tokens move for that third 6 (standard Ludo rule). You must move a token if a legal move exists. If no legal move is available, the turn passes.
Winning the Round
There are two ways to win: (1) Classic — be the first to move all four tokens into the center by exact rolls. (2) Third capture — capture three opponent tokens in the same round. The third-capture rule rewards aggressive play and can end a round before any player reaches home.
Common Ludo Questions
What happens when I roll a 6?
You may move a token from base to the starting square (if any remain in base) or move an already-active token 6 squares. You then roll again. Three consecutive 6s end your turn with no move for the third 6.
Can I choose not to move a token?
If a legal move exists, you must move. If no token can legally move (e.g., all tokens in base and you didn't roll a 6, or all moves would overshoot the center), the turn passes.
What are safe squares?
Safe squares (often marked with a star or shield) protect tokens from capture. An opponent's token landing on a safe square does not capture the token there. The exact safe square positions depend on the current format.
How does the third-capture win work?
Each time you capture an opponent's token, your capture count for that round increases. The moment any player reaches three captures in the same round, the round ends immediately and that player wins — even if other players have tokens closer to home.
Do I need an exact roll to enter the center?
Yes. Tokens in the home column must reach the center by an exact dice roll. Rolls that would overshoot the center cannot be used for that token.
Play Ludo Responsibly
Set a time and spending limit before joining a match, and take breaks between rounds rather than playing one long session. Because each round is played out on its own, past results do not predict what happens in the next one, and increasing your stake to recover a loss does not change the dice or the tokens. Check the current app rules and terms before playing, and see the Responsible Play page for deposit limits and self-exclusion.
